The mis-measured church?

How do we measure 'success' in church life? Often it is number of people or money. These are obviously important but it makes church feel more like a restaurant/business than a family. How should we measure family/church life? Can it be done?

So which pastor 'wins' the largest family award?

"They will know we are Christian's by our love". Love is the measure of success. The problem with numbers or money is that they are objective quantitative measures which bear little or no relation to love. Love is a thing not easily measured by quantitative analysis but is inherently more qualitative and thus harder to measure against objective indicators. It raises the question should we seek to measure at all or simply strive to show Christ's love more and more? Nathan

I like it - love. I suppose the 'measurement' needs to start with each of us individually - am I loving in my relationships with others. It would be all too easy to 'measure' others and not yourself (log in the eye syndrome).
