The Synod was asked to consider a motion asking the Archbishop to explore ways of churches being allowed to have women ministers leading their churches if they wanted them to. It was not a motion arguing from the Bible, it just acknowledged the difference of opinion and asked for freedom to act accordingly. Who likes being stopped from doing what they want to do?
What struck me was what this motion showed. You see in our country you have complete freedom to start up a church anytime you want to and for them to have any practice you want to. What I realised was that more than wanting women to lead churches, the movers of this motion want the approval of the structures of our Diocese in doing it. Freedom wasn't the issue but our approval was.
